NameCleaner is a utility to manipulate file names. It is specially designed to help move files to and from foreign file systems such as MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows95, Windows NT, NetWare and Unix.
Filters ("Cleaners") are available in NameCleaner for the following functions :
• Give files with definable PC/Unix extensions corresponding Macintosh Type/Creator codes and name suffixes.
• Remove non-viewable characters, “smart”en quotes, and pad out punctuation marks (with exclusions).
• Perform automatic capitalisation for words of different lengths, and apply a dictionary for special cases.
• Find and replace any definable phrase with a corresponding phrase.
• Append information (size, date and type) about individual files and apply a dictionary for type phrases.
• Filter Macintosh names for DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows95™, Windows NT™, Unix, NetWare™ and other foreign file systems.
• Give files with definable Type Codes corresponding DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows95™, Window NT™ and Unix Extensions.
• Resolve clashing duplicate file names by automatically changing file names by the minimum amount necessary.
NameCleaner requires System 7, and is System 7.5 savvy.
Any volume, folder or file can be made available for cleaning by dragging onto NameCleaner in the Finder™, into the Console Item List, or via the usual dialog box. Holding down Option will cause cleaning to take place immediately, otherwise the item will be added to the Console Item List. The effects of cleaning may be previewed before any operation takes place. Extensive help is available under “NameCleaner Help” in the Help or Apple menu. Balloon Help is also available for all dialogs and menus.
NameCleaner is shareware.
